New Year's Eve Baroque Music Concert

Celebrate the New Year among the wonders of art and baroque music! The scintillating music of the Roman Baroque is the star of this extraordinary event. The sound of the Baroque music comes alive through the original period instruments in one of the most famous 17th century palaces in Rome – the Doria Pamphilj Palace. Still privately owned by the princely Roman family Doria Pamphilj, more than four hundred paintings, many of which are masterpieces by Caravaggio, Raphael, Titian, Bernini, Velàzquez are on view in the palace's gallery.

The New Year's Eve event begins with a tour of the palace and its gallery, accompanied by live baroque music played on original instruments. The multisensorial experience concludes with a festive concert in the specially reserved Throne Hall.

The Doria, Pamphilj, Landi and Aldobrandini families, now united through marriage and descent under the simplified surname Doria Pamphilj have gathered the large collection of paintings, furniture and statuary since the 16th century. The collection includes paintings and furnishings from Innocent X's Palazzo Pamphilj (in Piazza Navona), who bequeathed them to his nephew Camillo Pamphilj.

The Palazzo has grown over the centuries; it is likely the largest in Rome still in private ownership. The main collection, complete with the mummified corpse of the family saint (!), is displayed in state rooms, including the chapel, with most of the collection being displayed in a series of four gilded and painted galleries surrounding a courtyard. An extensive suite of further rooms has now been converted to permanent well-lit galleries, containing the medieval and Byzantine art in the collection. This is one of the largest private art collections in Rome.
