Villalta Castle

The castle of Villalta is a medieval castle whose recorded history dates back to 1158. The castle is located in Villalta di Fagnana, on a hill overlooking the Friulian plain, and is surrounded by a double ring of walls with Ghibelline battlements, a walkway and circular corner towers.

Now the private residence of the Caporiacco, one of the most important families of Friuli, the castle is open for tours, events, weddings, and meetings. It also produces local products: olive oil, limoncello, walnut liqueur, honey and jams. During the tour, you’ll see the kitchen in rustic Friulian style, the main floor decorated with frescoes from the 17th century, the Salon of the Patriarchs, the Imperial Halls and the Hall of Family Trees, all of which have furnishings of the period. The castle of Villalta is immersed in a park full of flowers, trees, fruit trees, and beehives.
