Horne Museum

In 1911, the English architect and art historian Herbert Percy Horne bought Palazzo Corsi, on Via de' Benci, with the intention of giving an adequate home to his collection of paintings, sculptures, drawings, and furniture, as well as to recreate the atmosphere and environment of a Renaissance palace.

At his death in 1916, Horne left his collection (which in the meantime had reached over six thousand works) to the Italian state, giving rise to a foundation, intended "for the benefit of education."

Even today the Horne Museum presents itself to visitors as intended by the English collector - a refined mine of masterpieces of painting and sculpture (by Giotto, Simone Martini, Masaccio, Filippino Lippi, Domenico Beccafumi and Giambologna), but above all as a private residence, furnished with valuable pieces from the 13th to the 17th centuries.

In the heart of Florence, Italy's foremost place associated with the culture and art of the Renaissance, the Horne Museum invites you to relive the past and discover the customs and art of the city between the 15th and 16th centuries.
