Private guided visit to Villa Peyron

The entire complex of Villa Peyron with its formal gardens, the spacious park, the surrounding Fontelucente woods and olive groves is located on the hills of Fiesole, with spectacular views of Florence to the south and of Castel di Poggio to the east. Probably built on Etruscan ruins, the Villa Peyron houses the eclectic and precious collections of the family Peyron. It is the ideal destination for a day on the outskirts of Florence.

The museum is located inside the house which was inhabited by the Peyron family from the beginning of 1900 until 2003. The Peyron family altered the original volume and shape of the villa by adding a tower and ancillary rooms on the west side, transforming the building in eclectic-medieval style thanks to the intervention of the architectural engineer Ugo Giovannozzi.

Over time and especially after World War II, the Peyron family rebuilt the garden giving it the current aesthetic values and large dimensions, including most of the surrounding rural environment – thus creating the true "Garden of the 20th Century" – a whole that unites the villa with the formal Italian garden, the natural English-style park and countryside.

The objects in the museum come from the rich and diverse collections of the father Angelo Peyron and then by the son Paolo, who enriched it with many significant pieces of fine craftsmanship. The passion for watches and clocks is perhaps best represented by the rare and unique travel and pocket watches, desk or room clocks, including an unusual night-watch showing the phases of the moon.

The stunning villa and entire property was donated in 1998 by Dr. Paolo Peyron to the Fondazione Parco Monumentale Bardini, sponsored by Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze Foundation, already involved in the restoration of the Florentine Bardini Garden. As a result of this donation, the Foundation gained approval to officially name the complex of the Villa and its park a valuable example of the "Garden of the 20th Century."
