The castle of San Salvatore was built by the counts Collalto in the second half of the 13th century. The castle was transformed from a medieval fortress into a stately home during the Renaissance. In the period known known as “Pax Veneta” (Venetian Peace), Collalto Castle housed painters, poets, musicians, and writers, all contributing to enriching the abode with their works. San Salvatore became a place of culture and a center of power within Europel. In 1700, Count Odoardo, aspiring to the office of doge, added a splendid palace in Venetian style to the castle. Today, after careful renovations repairing the damage of heavy bombing during World War I, Castle San Salvatore offers all the charm of past centuries. It overlooks the town of Treviso and the Veneto plain all the way to the lagoon, and, with its historic gardens as additional feature, is a beautiful setting for cultural events and guided tours.
