Phlegraean Fields: Volcanism and Archaeology

Your tour bus will pick you up at the requested place for transfer to the Phlegraean Fields area, to explore one of the most fascinating sites in the vicinity of Naples, with the benefit of a professional guide. The area is known for its volcanic activity (no worries, the last real eruption was in 1198), as well as for its cultural importance since at least Grecian times.

Your tour begins at the shallow crater of Solfatara in Pozzuoli - a perfect example of the volcanism of the area, with columns of sulfurous smoke and boiling mud.

Your tour then continues to the Flavian Amphitheater, the most important remains from Imperial Roman times. The main attraction of the arena (the third largest Italian amphitheater!) is the extraordinary organization of the underground network of tunnels.

After that, your tour will briefly stop at Serapi, a temple located in the center of Pozzuoli. You will then pass through Arco Felice, the majestic entrance to the ancient city. Continue on to the Acropolis of Cumae with the Sibyl’s cave and its temples.

Return to Naples and drop off at the hotel at around 1:45pm.
