Lucca, Pisa, and Wine

Your tour begins in the morning: you will be picked up by your own English speaking guide. Sit back and relax as you enjoy the ride out of Florence east towards the Tyrrhenian coast.

Your first stop will be at the the Terre del Sillabo winery, a small, family-owned enterprise located in the Valfreddana, about 9 km (or 5.6 miles) outside of Lucca. As contained in its name (freddo = cold), the Valfreddana enjoys a special micro-climate characterized by thermal inversion: if the day has been warm and without cloud cover, a cool wind will begin blowing from the head of the valley about an hour and a half after sunset. The wind will continue to blow all night, creating a significant change in temperatures particularly suited to growing white wine grapes. The Moretti family will welcome you, and you\'ll get a chance to visit the winery as well as taste their wines.

Next, you\'ll be headed to Lucca, famous for its intact Renaissance-era city walls. Your guide will take you into the heart of town and give you an introduction to this ancient and fascinating place.

Time for lunch! Your program includes a delicious Tuscan lunch at the Osteria Baralla which has been welcoming hungry (and thirsty!) visitors since the 1860s.

After lunch, you\'ll take the short drive to Pisa, where your guide will take you around the Piazza dei Miracoli, the wide, walled heart of the city, world-famous for being the location of the Leaning Tower of Pisa. You\'ll visit the Cathedral and the cemetery, which are a part of this UNESCO world-heritage site.

At the end of the day, your driver will take you back to Florence.
