Palestrina Museum

The museum is located inside the Palazzo Barberini-Colonna, which was built on top of the sanctuary known as ‘Fortuna Primigenia’. It was inaugurated in 1956. Today, organised according to the most modern principles of museology, it houses works of art from ancient Praeneste. A visit to the museum will take you through a series of themes fundamental to the history of Rome: the cult of fortune, sculpture, written documents both secular and religious, sanctuaries. Among its treasures are the Triade Capitolina and a famous multi-coloured mosaic representing the flooding of the Nile. It is also possible to visit the criptoporticus, the sanctuary itself and the so-called “Antro delle sorti”.
