The Villa della Regina is a splendid 17th-century royal residence located on a hill in Turin, in the Borgo Po neighborhood. Part of the circuit of Savoy residences and designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this estate began as a “pleasure vineyard” and offers one of the most spectacular panoramic views of the city, framed by the Alps.
• Baroque Style: Originally designed by Ascanio Vitozzi in the 17th century, the villa was later modified by the renowned architect Filippo Juvarra, who redesigned its interior spaces and decorations in keeping with the Rococo and Baroque tastes of the time.
• Royal Apartments: Inside, highlights include the frescoed main hall, the King’s and Queen’s apartments, and the charming Chinese rooms, decorated with precious lacquered cabinets and 18th-century exotic motifs that were very much in vogue in the European courts of the time.
• Amphitheater and Waterfalls: The complex is surrounded by a large terraced park shaped like an amphitheater, featuring fountains, water features, nymphaea, and the evocative Padiglione dei Solinghi—a pagoda-shaped structure that served as a place of retreat and meditation.
• Urban Vineyard: The villa’s true unique feature is its historic, fully productive urban vineyard, which is also protected by UNESCO. The vineyard still produces the prized Freisa di Chieri DOC Superiore “Vigna della Regina” wine.
