Porcía Castle is an impressive Manor located in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region near Venice. It once was an important political and cultural center and a symbol of the history of Friuli.
The Castle consists of a central tower built on the remains of a Roman fort and reduced in height following an earthquake in the 19th century. A Renaissance wing and a tasteful Venetian building complete the building complex.
The orientation of the Castle reflects its original military defensive function - from here, one could see the mountains from which the fearsome, barbarian hordes came, protecting a splendid Neo-Gothic Cathedral on the other side of it.
The castle is private, the only part that can be visited is the historic wine cellar.

Castle of Porcia: Group Guided Tour of Wine Cellar with Wine Tasting
Discover the wines of the Castle of Porcía, which since the 12th century has been permanent residence of the noble family Porcía who ruled these lands for eight centuries. The manor became the center of important political and cultural events of the history of Friuli. Uniquely placed, the castle is in an excellent military location - the view to the mountains, from which the Barbarian invasions arrived, is perfect. Thus, the castle was able to also protect the magnificent neo-gothic cathedral behind it.
Emperors such as Charles V (1532) and Henry III, Holy Roman Emperor, were guests here, appreciating the good wine, cuisine, and hospitality. Over time, the castle suffered heavy devastation mainly due to earthquakes, which undermined the original architecture. The castle comprises a main tower, which - according to some historians - is based on the remaining parts of a Roman building. The Renaissance wing and a Venetian-style building are also part of the castle complex.
The Castle of Porcia winery continues today the family winemaking tradition. The wine cellar with its historic and picturesque Slavonian oak barrels vats is visited regularly by wine enthusiasts who appreciate the selection of white, red, Prosecco wines, and grappa.
As the castle is still the private residence of the Princes of Porcía and Brugnera, it cannot be visited. It can, however, be accessed through the wine cellar, where a tasty snack awaits you, accompanying the wine tasting with products from the Porcía lands, which have been tended to by the same family for over 800 years.
Once the visit is confirmed, you can not cancel or modify.
