The great architect Andrea Palladio designed this jewel among the Venetian villas around 1557. The central body of the Villa Emo, manor house, has a classical structure with Doric columns, a porch, living room and rooms arranged symmetrically on either side. The long arcades form the “barchesse”, where workplaces and cellars, barns, and stables were once housed. As a whole, Villa Emo recalls the ideals of harmony and classical proportion.
The Villa Emo salons were frescoed by Giambattista Zelotti in 1565. The frescoes represent the ideals pursued by the owner of the villa, as well as scenes inspired by mythology and life in the fields celebrating domestic and family virtues and understanding between the master and his workers.
