Castle of Thiene: Guided Visit for Groups - with Afternoon Snack

The castle of Thiene is an outstanding example of a pre-Palladian villa: the only example of its kind, it is considered a milestone in the evolution of Venetian Villas. Combining the features of the castle with those of a Venetian Palace and in particular the "casa-fondaco,” it is at the same time living space, storage place, and place of business.

Attributed to the architect Domenico from Venice, the castle of Thiene was built in the mid-15th century at the behest of the illustrious family Porto, from Vicenza. The rooms of the castle retain original furnishings, clothes, accessories and an extensive collection of portraits. Of note is the cycle of frescoes created by Gian Battista Zelotti and Gian Antonio Fasolo. The magnificent stables, built between the 17th and 18th centuries by architect Francesco Muttoni, and the small monumental complex of the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary are remarkable.

The Castle is located in the historic centre of the village, and is its symbol. It is surrounded by 12,000 square meters of parkland. The historic gardens include "the Noble Court" with Magnolia trees, the park with a cedar grove, a 16th century icehouse and a Renaissance cave.

The privately owned castle of Thiene still preserves its original character, offering visitors the opportunity to experience life in the villa.
