The cost includes the guide, the entrance to the villa, to the Park of the Great War, to the Park dedicated to the great Italian poet Giuseppe Ungaretti and to the wine cellars, as well as a wine tasting in the cellars.
Accessibility: not accessible for wheelchair users.

For cancellations from booking to 4 days before the day of the visit, cancellation penalty is 30% of the total amount

Villa Castelnuovo
Villa Castelnuovo (full name: Villa of the Hofer Valsassina Hohenlohe Tower), known as Castelnuovo, is a fortified villa overlooking the karstic foothills near Sagrado on the Isonzo river, about 100 km northeast of Venice, towards the Alps. The origins of Villa Castelnuovo date back to the second half of the 1500s, to the counts Della Torre of Valsassina, a noble and powerful family from Lombardy.
In 1849, it was handed down to the princely family of Hohenlohe Waldenburg by inheritance. Throughout the centuries, Villa Castelnuovo has faced many transformations, finding its current Neo-Palladian appearance in 1770.
During the First World War, Villa della Torre Hohenlohe became a field hospital, where troops were sheltered and treated, and it was used by the command of the Third Army of General Cadorna and King Vittorio Emanuele III.
Today, Villa Castelnuovo includes a farm that produces Carso Doc wines, olive oil, grappa and other products, and hosts the Castelnuovo Friends Association for the enhancement of the artistic, historical, and cultural heritage of the original settlement in Castelnuovo.
Spend some time at the Villa Castelnuovo, visit the main drawing room of the villa, where graffiti left by the soldiers during WWI has been uncovered and offers a moving testimony of a terrible time, while other rooms hold frescoes by Mattia Furlanetto.
Things to see in addition to the Villa:
The Park of the Great War: historical memories related to the Great War including communication trenches and see the graffiti left by soldiers in the great hall of the villa.
The Literary Park dedicated to Giuseppe Ungaretti, one of the great 20th century Italian poets who wrote one of his most famous collections of poems Porto Sepolto (“Buried Harbor”) while he was fighting as a soldier here. The park offers visitors the opportunity to enter into a new relationship with the landscape, the history it still holds, and the poet Ungaretti.
The wine cellars where beautiful oak barrels hold the aging wine.
