Leon Battista Alberti
On 1436, Leon Battista Alberti, in his thirties, is in Florence. Descendant of an ancient family of the Casentino of the 13th Century, that gave the city several government men, Battista is born away from Florence, he becomes a priest and, as part of Pope Eugene IV's court, he goes to Florence to follow the Council that was supposed to reunite the Latin and the Greek churches.
In the city, he gets in touch with the main protagonists of the artistic world in Florence: Filippo Brunelleschi, Lorenzo Ghiberti, Luca Della Robbia, Donatello and Masaccio. This meeting changes Alberti's idea, that in his previous life in Rome was deeply impressed by the ancient architectonic ruins of the city, convincing himself that art was in decline respect to the top of the classic era.
In the meeting with the young Battista, visitors can discover the role that Alberti had in the definition of the rules of prospective and in proposing a new architectonic approach in a city that was already deeply renewed by Brunelleschi's work.
At the end, the public will experience a multimedial confrontation between the representation of the ancient Rome and the 15th Century Florence.
