Book your chocolate workshop here and become chocolatier for an afternoon at the cooperative Quetzal di Modica. The cooperative has been serving the area for 20 years with its shop and as point of reference for fair trade products and themes, and with its creative chocolate laboratory.

 

Start time: 3:30 pm

Duration: 2 hours

Availability: The workshop is available upon request throughout the year, from Monday to Friday in the afternoon (in the morning, the laboratory is engaged in normal chocolate production). During October, November and December, as a consequence of the extraordinary production for the holiday season, the workshop may not be available.

Participants: 1 to 8

Meeting point: Coop. Quetzal, Corso Umberto I, 281, Modica (Sicily, province of Ragusa).

Languages: The workshop is conducted in Italian (always) and English (upon request).

Reservations must be made at least 10 days before the desired date.

Cancellation Policy:

  • Cancellation possible up to 7 days prior to the start of the tour.
  • No refund is possible for cancellations made less than 7 days before the booked tour and for no-shows.

The long love affair between Modica and cocoa - which started when the Spanish brought the ancient Xocoatl recipe during their occupation of Sicily - marks the daily life and the character of this baroque town in South East Sicily.

The cool processing temperatures, the gritty texture, and the organoleptic characteristics make chocolate of Modica a unique product. It is a true messenger of the flavours of the region, of its fruit products, its handcrafting excellence. And to really get to know this chocolate, nothing is better than to put your hands in cocoa and make some chocolate bars yourself!

The chocolate laboratory is dedicated to uniting local raw materials (organic and fair trade carob, oranges, hazelnut, hemp, manna, spices, chili ...) with the traditional cocoa processing techniques.

While your newly created chocolate bars cool, you can visit both the shop and the lab and learn about the machines and production secrets.

At the end, some sweet-tasting treats await you, along with some thoughts on a new and fairer way of thinking about business.
