Gregorian Chants at the Abbey of Sant'Antimo & Brunello di Montalcino Museum

A visit to the Val d’Orcia is not complete without a visit to the Abbey of Sant’Antimo.

The landscape, the vineyards, the trees, the hills – it all seems like a film setting, or a dream. The silence all around you is an invitation to meditate. The beautiful romanesque Abbey, lost in a corner of the Sienese countryside, keeps its timeless mystical and religious atmosphere intact. The former Benedictine monastery was long in disuse. But since 1992, a community of PremonstratensianCanons Regular monks – a religious order that takes much inspiration from the Cistercian ideals – has been living here, bringing the abbey back to life. The monks of Sant'Antimo are known for their Gregorian chanting, which is a constant through their day and worship.

On your tour, you will experience the Gregorian chants at 11:00am, which will resound in the elegantly simple edifice made of local alabaster stones, a meditative and devotional space out of the ordinary.

On your way back to Montalcino, you will stop at the Brunello di Montalcino Museum. The Brunello di Montalcino is one Italy's most famous and prestigious wines, made exclusively from Sangiovese grapes grown on the slopes around Montalcino. The first records of red wines from Montalcino date back to the early 14th century! Visit the Brunello di Montalcino Museum, where the collection of tools used by locals to work the fields and the vines will give you an insight into the life and work of the people who make one of the world's great wines.
