Turin Egyptian Museum Guided Tour: Animals or Gods? | WEEKENDinITALY

The ancient inhabitants of the Nile Valley sensed God's presence in every aspect of their lives - in the abundant waters of the Nile, as well as in drought or famine, in war or in business success and social relations. The positive or negative outcome of every action depended for the Egyptians on the mood of the gods. Discover this interesting universe, and get to know whom this ancient people entrusted with their destiny.

Guided by the Museum Egyptologist, children and their parents will discover the ancient Egyptian gods, learn to distinguish the shapes they choose to manifest themselves and demonstrate their immense power.

Itinerary of the guided tour

The guided tour concentrates on a selection of display cases distributed in all the exhibition areas. The itinerary begins on the second floor, where the painted cloths, the ritual cups and jars represent the oldest animal forms that become more defined and numerous over time. Continuing on the first floor, the village of Deir el-Medina allows to meet the mysterious deities worshipped at home by artisans and artists who lived in the village. The artefacts of the gallery of sarcophagi and the subsequent rooms, as well as the decoration of the sarcophagi and the scenes contained on papyrus illustrate the creator divinities and those related to the life after death. You can also appreciate the importance of the cult of sacred animals, whose taxidermied bodies are well recognizable in the display cabinets! The itinerary ends on the ground floor in the scenic Gallery of the Kings, in the presence of the powerful goddess Sekhmet.
