Audio Guide Cathedral of Milan | WEEKENDinITALY
This audio tour is your perfect introduction to the Cathedral of Milan, the magnificent Gothic Duomo.
Located in the heart of Milan, the white marble building’s walls and spires rise towards the sky. The cathedral is one of Europe’s most beautiful church buildings and is often compared with Notre Dame in Paris or the Cathedral of Seville in Spain. It took five centuries to complete the building, from 1300 to the first half of the 19th century, when Napoleon ordered its completion.
The Duomo is unusual in that it does not have its own bell tower (Campanile) - instead, over one hundred spires reach high above the surrounding city roofs. Each spire is carefully sculpted and decorated with an historic figure or a Biblical character. The most important spire is topped with the “Madonnina” (little Madonna). The gold statue is so precious to the Milanese that a law was created forbidding any building to rise higher - which is why skyscrapers can be found only the in the periphery of this business metropolis!
Inside, the Cathedral is filled with precious works of sculpture, painting, and with stained glass.
To complete your experience, we highly recommend adding a visit of the Cathedral rooftop terraces to your audio guide reservation!
