Hidden treasures between Paganism and Christianity: San Clemente (Upper and Lower, Basilica and Mithraeum) and the Roman houses under San Giovanni e Paolo.

The complex of Roman houses on the Caelian Hill is formed by the remains of ancient Roman residences - about 20 rooms, 13 of which frescoed - located under the Basilica of San Giovanni e Paolo al Celio. The remains, discovered in the late 19th century, have become a major evidence of stratification through time and different uses: initially, various popular "insulae", later encompassed in a single property, a domus, with frescoed environments, and finally used as the basis for the founding of the upper basilica.

  • Throughout the tour, you will be guided by an expert in History or Art History, Archeology or Architecture, who will help you to discover our Rome.
  • You can choose the language you prefer... we have 5 different languages available!
  • This is a 2 hours tour with a private guide.
  • Tour is available from Tuesday to Sunday from 09:00 am to 5:00 pm, each hour
